I’m sorry guys, I’m going to complain again. Don’t worry, there are only 4 more episodes this season, so my complaints are almost over!
Once again, please understand that if you are loving this season - that’s okay and feel free to just ignore me! Different strokes for different folks and all that. If that’s the case, just skip my post :) Also, probably spoiler mentions here? So skip it if you aren’t caught up, just in case.
Soooo…. what the fuck HBO? Have they given up on getting realistic acting out of anyone? I never felt that way before about this show to be honest. I know some people have always felt that Bill was played a bit ham-handedly, but I was always fond of the southern gentleman cliche and I liked that he played so strongly into that. This season just has me yelling at my TV set though for the actors to “CALM DOWN! BEING MANIC DOES NOT EQUAL ACTING”.
They have also managed to make every male character on this show the most fickle creature on Earth when it comes to their love apparently. And thank you for ruining Alcide as a character in just a few episodes, I really appreciate that. His girlfriend JUST FUCKING DIED. Like, seriously that just happened - have we forgotten? They were having troubles, but he STILL LOVED HER FOR FUCK’S SAKE. And then he tries to fuck Sookie when she’s obviously drunk (nonono Alcide would not do that) and then he moves on from that to some new Wolf chick in the bat of an eye. He must have super loved Debbie,he’s really torn up about it, obviously.
Bill and Eric JUST had their hearts broken by Sookie. Again - that’s JUST happened in their storyline. And then they’re like….oh well, fuck it - there’s Salome and Eric’s sister so… *shrugs*. Again, they’ve undermined their own writing by diminishing the appearance of what they were supposed to have felt for Sookie. Eric just had a whole season of being a new person, of remembering who he was before centuries of being a vampire and what made him that way. He made a real romantic connection with Sookie and it was erased so,so quickly.
I’m still of the mind that the vampire religion storyline is a weak one. And they’ve proved that because it’s so weak that they have to pad this season with no less than eight side plots (none of which they seem to be all that invested in). That’s a whole lotta side plot people.
And hello pointless scene = Bill visiting his dying daughter Sarah. Bill visited her why? He spent probably 20 years or more away from his children, hiding the truth of him still being alive, and of becoming what he felt was a monster. He finds his daughter is dying, so he decides to confuse the fuck out of her suddenly by showing up looking the same as he did when she was a little girl and then also denying her request for him to save her life. So like, “Hi Sarah. No, Daddy can’t save you. I just wanted you to know that I’m still alive and young forever and I’m just here to watch you die, okay?” He wouldn’t want his children to be what he is, and I get that. But it makes his visit with her pointless.
Also, Jessica is in serious trouble and Bill doesn’t seem to notice? It was daytime but there is no reaction shot of Bill, realizing that his vampire child is in danger?
And the faeries are nervous about discovering that a vampire killed Sookie’s parents, but they already knew that and they all sort of volunteered for that hippy hand-holding past-vision summoning shit? What is going on??
Pam is a terrible maker even though she had a good maker and a great example of a good maker/progeny relationship. And she seems to take to being unreasonably cruel to Tara for no real reason. She’s nicer to Sookie and yet she has no blood connection to her. That also makes no sense to me. She decides to suddenly make up for it I guess, by offering a person to Tara. And Tara seems really pleased, even though - in terms of storyline - it’s only been days since Tara was really and truly horrified at the idea of her even being a vampire. If she’s going to embrace it with open arms like this, maybe it’s time she apologized to Sookie and Lafayette for being so fucking sour about being turned.
Russell Edgington remains a lone star of the cheese. Maybe because he plays so well into all the cheesed up glory and really makes it his own, but his lines continue to be consistently hilarious and over the top, but entertaining. The rest of the cheese is irritating. Like Sookie being confronted in her bathroom by a demonic visage and her reaction is to yelp and then gather her robe around her neck. Yeah Sook, that’s gonna protect you I’m sure.
And on a final note I’d like to just state again that I really really wish that the writers were at least keeping half of the source material. If they winged just half of it, I might be able to tolerate it. But they are all on their own now, just pulling every story out of thin air at this point, and it’s not going well.
This post made me so happy
